Tools[]

Preferences Tools

Tools Preferences

You can configure up to eight external applications plus an audio editor.

external application[]

External applications will show up in the External Tools submenu of the Send To context menu. External applications can also be configured as Hotkeys and Command Buttons.

name

Enter a name for the external application - the name will show in the Send To menu.

application path

Select the application from the file explorer, or enter the path manually.

parameters

Enter any parameters required by the application. You can use templates here. You can also configure the same application in more than one slot with different parameters.

  • "<URL>" will be substituted with the path of the selected music file(s), launching a separate instance of the application for each file.
    • If you tick "wait", MusicBee will send one file at a time and wait for the external application to close before sending another.
  • "<URLs>" works like "<URL>", except that all files will be sent to a single instance of the application.
  • If you configure a browser as an external application, you can use a website as the parameter. Also see Internet if you're interested in creating custom web links.

external audio editor[]

This requires only the application path. It is inserted in the main Send To menu, using the .exe name as the menu listing.

maximum encoding threads

This controls how many files MusicBee will try to encode at one time. MusicBee populates this field for you based on your detected hardware configuration, but if you find that your computer slows down during encoding try reducing this number.

thread priority

Setting a lower thread priority will allow other processes on the computer to access resources first. Setting a higher priority will speed up encoding while possibly slowing down other processes.

  • Lowest
  • Below Normal
  • Normal (Default)
  • Above Normal
encoder location

Enter the path the encoder executable is located. If no path is entered, the default is the Codec sub-folder where MusicBee is installed. You do not have to use the encoder MusicBee defaults to - for example, there are a number of quality alternatives to Nero for AAC encoding. However you will need to enter the encoding parameters yourself, and the encoder must have a parameter instructing it to accept data from stdin (usually '-'), and you must use '[output]' for the output filename parameter.

See the FAQ for instructions on installing MP3 and AAC codecs.

encoding command-line parameters

Enter the parameters that are passed to the encoder. Four encoding profiles are available ranging from "small file size" which has parameters set so the encoder minimizes the file size (with a loss of sound quality) to "file archiving" which has parameters set to get the best sound quality (with larger file sizes). You can adjust and add parameters depending on the encoder - see the help system for the encoder in question for more details. The value '[outputfile]' should be used as the name of the output file.
